Map of the land enhabitated by the polar bear.
The polar bear lives in the Tundra biome which is the Arctic Circle. The green highlighted areas on the globe map show the Arctic Circle. Polar bears may be born on land but they spend many months of the year in the water rather than on land. Polar bears are amazing swimmers and have been known to swim many miles in between packs of ice. All that time in such cold water and snow habitat can easily kill a bear. That is why polar bears are different than most bears. Polar bears have a thick layer of fat underneath their skin which helps insulate heat. Polar bears also have large furred paws that have great traction which greatly helps moving around on slippery ice and keeping their feet warm.
